I wanted to update you on my bride. I have had the first fitting on my proof. I made it out of a basic satin, no linings, interlining, interfacing, laces, closures or details of any sort. It's only purpose was to get a perfect fit and it did the job superbly! A few days before the fitting I tripped and broke my arm, terrible timing! Good news is that the break is at the elbow and required no cast or surgery. The fitting was a bit awkward (and painful) but with my little wild flower holding the pins, everything went very well.
Speaking of my wild flower, she tried her hand at some sewing since my last post!
We altered this pattern to have a skirt gathered into the bodice. The materials we picked proved to be bad choices! The lace melted with the slightest touch of an iron! The floral was a silky satin. It was very pretty but frayed CRAZY!!!
Me after gathering the skirt! Not the easiest fabric for a beginner dressmaker like my wild flower. She pieced together the bodice and attached the lace yoke, then she handed the project over to me to finish.
Here it is on the dress form, it turned out pretty but not a dress she will wear very often. It was her Easter dress and we will remember it fondly.
She had a school choral concert the following week so I made it again out of jersey knit.
I have a picture of her in it somewhere, but I can not find it. It turned out very nice. She has worn it several times already and gets compliments every time. That makes us both happy!
Since my last post I have also made two christening outfits. I truly have been one happy, busy lady!
Lot's more to document. Lot's more to sew! I'd love to share pictures of my completed projects so please visit my website at donalynndesigns.com.
And one more little secret about me...
Yep! I sew in my bare feet!
Thanks for reading. I will be writing about Layton and his first generation heirloom Christening gown in my next post, so keep watching!
Always stay positive.......you matter.
